About Luis

Luis Roberto de Castro Rios

A visual artist working across painting, sculpture, fashion, costume and set design as parts of a shared language.

His work brings together historical references, contemporary aesthetics and a close attention to material, texture and light.

Luis creates more than objects: he creates atmospheres. His works connect memory, culture and imagination through elegance, theatrical presence and a distinct visual identity.

Artistic beginnings

Art as an original language.

Luis grew up in a creatively rich environment. Art was part of everyday life at home, family references and the freedom to experiment with forms, images and ways of creating.

His father’s talent for caricature and his mother’s path as an award-winning artist made creativity a constant presence. Before it became a profession, art became a way of seeing the world.

Film, theatre and fashion

The body, the stage and the image.

His passion for film and theatre led Luis to pursue studies bringing together art, aesthetics and visual storytelling. While studying fashion in Paris, he immersed himself in fashion history, theatre and film costume, and illustration.

This experience deepened his relationship with the body on stage, gesture, volume, clothing as language and image as a way of creating presence.

Design and technique

Space, material and visual effects.

Back in Brazil, Luis expanded his studies in interior design, bringing visual creation closer to space, composition and atmosphere.

He also pursued further studies in animation and special-effects makeup for film in the United States, adding new technical layers to his creative practice.

An authorial practice

Art in all its forms.

Over the course of his career, Luis has worked as a sculptor, painter, draftsman, illustrator and visual artist.

His work brings together references from film, theatre, fashion, design and the visual arts to create a multifaceted, refined and deeply personal visual world.

Across painting, sculpture, fashion, costume, set design and visual projects, his work seeks to create presence: works, images and atmospheres carrying memory, culture, imagination and visual force.

Studio LRCR

A place to bring together, experiment with and present multiple creative languages.

Art has always been, and remains, at the heart of Luis’s work and the way he sees the world. Studio LRCR grew from this path: a place for paintings and one-of-a-kind works, art, image, body, material, light and creation in many forms.
